Background

Miro has been building custom saddle trees since 2015. He spent over six years learning and working under well known master tree maker Warren Wright in his workshop in New Zealand. This apprenticeship has given Miro a passion for preserving the traditional art of saddle tree making, especially through the use of the spokeshave and drawknife.

He established his own workshop in 2022 in the Far North of New Zealand. Miro builds all the trees, processes the hides, and rawhides the trees himself. The bars are built from North American Douglas Fir and the saddle trees are covered with quality beef cattle hides that are sourced locally.

Horse Work

In between building trees Miro has started over 250 horses of all types for a variety of performance horse breeders and the general public. In 2012 he was the New Zealand Rodeo Cowboys Association rookie heeling champion. In 2013 Miro was one of the first two recipients outside of North America to be awarded a Legacy of Legends horsemanship scholarship.

He has also worked for several seasons contract mustering on the large cattle stations in the Northern Territory of Australia. The mustering was predominantly done with a horse, and commonly involved 10+ hours a day on horseback. Miro feels the combination of this horse experience, along with his time with Warren Wright has given him a solid foundation of knowledge to draw from.
